You don’t really have to have wedding hashtag. Big shocker right? You can still have an amazingly awesome wedding without one. There is no official wedding rule book that requires a hashtag. But if you do decide to use one, that’s totally fine too.
Don’t decide on the first hashtag you come across. If you are anything like me, you can be a bit indecisive at times. So please do not change hashtags 10,000x because you cannot make up your mind. It’s confusing and takes the fun out of it.
Ask LITERALLY everyone for ideas. I asked my graduate school classmates, coworkers, friends, and family. Anyone can come up with a hashtag, but if you want to find THE wedding hashtag, then you need a pool to choose from.
Google, Pinterest, etc. Use the free examples that are all over the internet. Trust me, there are plenty of hashtags to go around. However, if your new last name is unique this might be a little more difficult.
Think about puns and rhymes for the last name. This will help you come up with a hashtag that is less generic. You want the hashtag to reflect the happy couple’s personality.
Keep a running list of the top hashtag contenders. I used the notes app on my phone, but you can use anything (wedding planner, notebook, etc). When you come across ideas, jot them down. You can also eliminate hashtags that you decide aren’t right for you along the way.
You don’t need 10 different hashtags. Take your time to find the perfect one and stick to it. Please don’t slap 3 or 4 generic hashtags to every post. One will suffice, and if you take the time to find a really good one then you won’t feel the need to use multiple.
If you decide to use a hashtag, actually use it. What’s the point in taking the time to pick an awesome wedding hashtag if you are just going to forget to use it? Be consistent and add the hashtag to every wedding related post including your wedding website and invitations.
*These tips aren’t for everyone, but they really helped me. At the end of the day, do whatever makes you and your future spouse happy. Oh, and CONGRATS on your engagement! 🙂
